HERConnect Initiative

The HERConnect Initiative is dedicated to transforming mental healthcare for Calgary's Black immigrant community at no cost. We provide culturally responsive mental health services tailored to the unique needs and lived experiences of African, Caribbean, and Black women, girls, and their families in Calgary.

HERConnect is a LIFF-led program delivered in partnership with ABTN and Hope Alive.

Adult

Counselling

Individual Sessions

Provides culturally sensitive one-on-one support from a qualified therapist to help adults navigate personal mental health needs such as grief, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, while building coping strategies and improving overall well-being. 

Costs:

  • This is a free service.

Serving:

  • African, Caribbean, and Black women (18+) who are seeking support for their mental health and well-being.

Culturally Sensitive

Counselling

Individual Sessions

Provides culturally sensitive counselling tailored to the unique experiences of newcomers and immigrant Black women and girls, delivered by Black therapists in a supportive, understanding environment. 

Costs:

  • This is a free service

Serving:

  • African, Caribbean, and Black women (18+) who are navigating life transitions, emotional challenges, or identity-related stress.

Youth

Counselling

Individual Sessions

Provides counselling for youth to help manage stress, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills in a convenient and accessible format. 

Costs:

Serving:

  • Youth African, Caribbean, and Black girls (aged 12-17) who are looking to explore their unique feelings and mental health needs.

Counselling

Individual & Group Sessions

Provides support for couples to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and work through challenges in a safe and neutral environment.

Provides counselling to help families improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships in a supportive environment.
