Newborn Behavioral Observation (NBO)

Kindred Connections Society

At Kindred, we specialize in supporting parents as they build strong, secure connections with their newborns. The Newborn Behavioral Observations (NBO) system is a relationship-building, family-centered approach that helps you notice and understand your baby’s unique ways of communicating from the very beginning. Rather than evaluating your infant, the NBO invites you to slow down and observe how your baby responds to touch, voice, movement, and the world around them. Through guided observation and shared reflection, you’ll begin to recognize your baby’s cues, strengths, and needs, often discovering that your baby is already actively communicating and seeking connection. This process helps you feel more confident, curious, and emotionally present in those early days, fostering comfort, trust, and safety in your relationship.

Early parent-child attunement lays the foundation for secure attachment, which research shows is linked to lifelong outcomes in emotional regulation, relationships, and overall well-being. By learning to read and respond to your baby’s cues in sensitive, predictable ways, you are taking the first steps in nurturing a strong, secure bond that supports healthy brain development, resilience, and long-term relational health. The NBO is an investment in your child’s growth and in your shared relationship, setting the stage for a lifetime of connection, confidence, and trust.
